General Questions

What can I expect during a counselling session?

During a counselling session, you can expect a safe and confidential environment. You will be in a space where you can openly discuss your thoughts, feelings, and concerns. We’ll work collaboratively to explore your challenges, set goals, and develop strategies for growth and change.

How long are counselling sessions?

I will tailor sessions to suit the unique needs of each client. For individual counselling with adults, sessions typically last for an hour. This allows ample time to delve into your concerns and explore strategies for growth and healing.

For my younger clients, individual sessions range between 45 to 60 minutes, depending on their age and developmental stage. I understand the importance of adapting my approach to ensure that young individuals feel comfortable and engaged throughout the session.

In couples counselling, sessions extend to 75 minutes. This allows time for both partners to express themselves fully and for us to delve deeper into relationship dynamics. However, I understand that every couple’s needs are different, so sessions can be adjusted based on individual preferences and circumstances.

Regardless of the session length, my focus remains on providing a safe, supportive, and confidential space for you. This is a space for you to explore your challenges and work towards positive change. Your comfort and progress are my top priorities.

How many counselling sessions will I need?

The number of sessions needed varies depending on your unique circumstances and goals. We’ll work together to assess progress and determine the most appropriate duration for your counselling journey.

In couples counselling, I use various techniques. For example, active listening, empathy building, and conflict resolution strategies can help improve communication and resolve conflicts in a constructive manner.

Will couples counselling save my relationship?

I can’t promise I will fix your relationship problems.
But here’s what I can do: I can help both of you figure out the issues causing trouble and talk openly about what you both want from the relationship. Then, we can see where things might go from there.
Sometimes, couples come to me when things have gotten really tough. Sadly, not every relationship can bounce back from that.
Yet, some couples manage to heal and make their relationship stronger.
If your partner isn’t sure about fixing things but you’re determined, you might find it helpful to undertake some individual counselling. Individual counselling could help you figure out what you can do differently.
